FREMONT – Just a junior and Dontrez Brown has already been recognized at the state’s highest level.
The Fremont Ross defensive lineman was named to Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association’s All-State first team Tuesday.
“It couldn’t happen to a better kid,” said Ross head football coach Chad Long. “He’s a role model for the entire football team in the classroom and on the football field. He never says boo, he does whatever he’s asked and he does whatever he can for the team.”
Brown was an unstoppable force in leading the Little Giant defense up front. The 6-foot-2, 265-pounder made 59 total tackles in 2018, eight tackles for loss and a whopping 14.5 quarterback sacks along with two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass break-ups.
“We couldn’t ask for anything better than Dontrez being named first-team,” Long said. “He’s a great cornerstone for next year. He’ll never let anything to to his head, he’ll stay humble. He was raised properly to be a great student-athlete. We have big plans for him.”
Brown wasn’t the only Little Giant recognized. Senior linebacker Garrett Schneider was a special mention having led Ross 108 tackles 10 tackles for loss, 2,5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
“Garrett Schneider getting a special mention is an awesome accomplishment and a great thing for him for the efforts he put in as well.”
