FREMONT – The rains came Tuesday afternoon and brought with them some extra strokes for Ross’ boys golf team.
A 20-minute rain delay threw the Little Giants off their game in a duel match against Eastwood, in a 172-200 setback at the Fremont Country Club. Coach Jim Scharer, however, saw the silver lining in the rain clouds.
“Today was a good day. The thing is we ran into a rain storm, it rained for about 20 minutes really hard,” he said. “It delayed us a little bit and a couple of our kids hit some stray shots after that. I told them shooting around 200 is right where we want to be.”
Dylan Genzman returned to the course after missing the team’s last three events due to being on vacation. He carded a team-low score of 46, despite showing signs of being away from the game.
“He was a little out of sorts with his distance on his clubs so he was getting himself in trouble behind the green,” Scharer said. “(He) was making fives when he should have been making fours and getting double (bogey) when he should have gotten pars or bogies.”
Braxton White shot a 49, Cole Druckenmiller had a 52 and Zane Rusch shot 53.
“We tossed away a good seven or eight shots, just on the four or five holes I saw us play,” Scharer said. “If we can get down to 380 by the end of the year, on 18 holes, 190 on 9, I’ll be excited. And I think we will too. We’re getting better.”
Ross’ boys return to the course Thursday at the Fremont Country Club, hosting Toledo Central Catholic at 4 p.m.
