The fall sports season is in full swing and so is the Ross Sports Report.

In the last six days, 23 stories have been published, including full coverage of EVERY varsity sporting event that took place during the week, all 15 of them. The RSR also had game previews, Q&As with athletes, and an alumni feature story.

In case you missed any of it, here it is again, broken down by sport.

Football

Ross football defeated Springfield 28-18 Friday night.

The Little Giants stared off the season right, picking up a 28-18 upset win over Springfield.

Ross was led by an terrific defensive effort that saw the Little Giants come up with five interceptions.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Ross’ win was beating a program as talented as Springfield, despite making numerous mistakes.

Prior to the game, the RSR published a scouting report on the Blue Devils, a look at why the defense was viewed as the Little Giants’ strength this season, and a Q&A with linebacker Ben Rozzell.

Also, a feature story on several alumni returning to Ross and wishing for one more snap in the purple and white.

Cross country

Ross’ Ashanti Elkins sprints past Notre Dame’s Jenna Reichert in the final stretch toward the finish line of the Norm Bray invite.

The cross country teams were the last of the fall sports to begin their season and the RSR previewed their first event, the Norm Bray Invitational Ross hosted at Walsh Park. Saturday morning the Little Giants picked up a trio of top-5 finishes from Matt Keyken, Ethan McClory and McKela Edler.

Boys golf

The boys golf team had a soggy start to the week, as a rain delay in the middle of their round threw the Little Giants off their game. However, Ross rebounded a few days later by shooting a season-low score, 23 shots fewer than they’d taken just a week earlier.

Girls golf

The girls golf team only had one event this week, but they used that event to get an up-close look at some quality competition and get a taste of what it takes to play at a higher level.

Boys soccer

The boys soccer program couldn’t have started its season better. Ross opened the year with a dominant 10-0 win over Sandusky Perkins that saw Dylan Brady score five goals.

Two days later, the Little Giants continued their fast start with another blow-out win, a 7-0 victory over Port Clinton.

Girls soccer

Like their male counterparts, the girls soccer team has started the season perfect.

The Lady Giants won their season-opener in thrilling fashion, scoring a late go-ahead goal then preserving the win late with a spectacular save from keeper Hailey Taylor.

Ross then ironed out a few kinks from its opener and went on to score a 5-0 win over Port Clinton.

Girls tennis

No program had a busier, or more successful, week than the Lady Giants tennis team.

The tennis team had four events in six days, starting with a dominant sweep of Tiffin Columbian.

The following day Ross took a 4-1 win over Bowling Green.

Then the Lady Giants opened the TRAC portion of its season at Whitmer where Ross once again won by a 5-0 score.

Finally, the team closed out the week with a long day at the Perkins Invite, a doubles tournament including four brackets. Ross teams won championships in two of those brackets and finished second in the event.

As if that wasn’t enough, we spent some time Getting to Know junior Lily Abdoo. This was a fun interview.

Volleyball

Things haven’t been quite as smooth on the volleyball court, as the Lady Giants dropped their first two matches of the season.

Monday night costly errors doomed Ross in a three-set loss to Tiffin Columbian.

Thursday Ross played better, including winning its first set of the season, but fell to Bellevue, 3-1, though coach Kari Shull sees the improvement her team has made.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s coverage of Ross athletics and hope you’ll support the RSR so the best coverage of Ross athletics can continue.
