LIMA – Over the last two weeks the Ross girls tennis team has done more sweeping than your average household broom.

Berlin Swaisgood, girls tennis

For the fourth time in their last five dual matches the Lady Giants won all five flights, this time rolling over TRAC foe Lima Senior.

“They’re just doing a great job,” coach Lisa Wolfe said of her team. “They were in the same order we played Whitmer in the other TRAC match, this could quite possibly work for the TRAC tournament, to do the best we could possibly do in the league.”

The Lady Giants were hardly challenged Thursday as they swept the Spartans.

Olivia Henry remained undefeated on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Mallory Hutton rolled at 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Berlin Swaisgood won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2.

“Berlin, at No. 3 singles, handled herself very well today,” Wolfe said.

In doubles play, Gillian Gallagher and Lily Abdoo won posted shutouts, 6-0, 6-0 and the No. 2 team of Jurni Kidd and Sophia Biggins won 6-1, 6-1.

With a record of 7-1 overall (2-0 TRAC), the Lady Giants are off until Tuesday when they host St. Ursula at 4:30, one of the league’s top teams, which will be a much stiffer test than the one Ross faced Thursday.

“They have extremely strong singles players from last year, we know what we’re getting into,” Wolfe said of St. Ursula. “We’re going to give it a real good shot.”
