FREMONT – Kari Shull asked her team how it felt following its match Thursday against Lima Senior.
The Lady Giants responded with screams and cheers.
Question asked and answered.
Ross volleyball broke into the win column Thursday night, winning its TRAC opener in straight sets over Lima Senior, 29-9, 25-12, 25-18.
“I think their energy level, they’re continuing to swing really hard at balls and refusing to let balls hit the floor really made a difference tonight,” said Shull, who won her first game as Ross head coach. “They were rip-roaring, ready to go. The gym was loud and they were energized.”
The victory snaps a five-game losing streak to begin the season and gets the Lady Giants a reward at the end of a busy week that saw them play four matches in four nights.
“I think everybody came together and felt this was their night to get the win,” Shull said.
Olivia DeRodes led Ross with eight kills and two blocks. AnneMarie Moses had seven kills and two blocks, Jazmin Bulger had three kills and a pair of blocks and Kennedy Bohannan had a pair of kills.
Aliza Quick finished with 11 asissts while Isabelle Held added seven.

“It’s really hard to win in three sets straight, at varsity. A couple of our kids that play JV and dress up for varisty, Hayley Lawrence and Brooke Baptista, we put them in in the third set and the way the rest of the varsity girls responded, with giving up some playing time and being able to see them on the floor, was a great way to continue that energy and allowed us to win the third set and get that win.”
The victory lifts the Lady Giants’ record to 1-5, 1-0 in the league. Ross returns to the court Sept. 7 at St. Ursula.
