FREMONT – A day after one of the biggest duel match wins in the program’s history, the Ross girls tennis team wasn’t about to let its foot off the gas pedal.
The Lady Giants breezed to a non-conference victory over Toledo Waite Wednesday, sweeping the Indians 5-0 and barely losing a game along the way.
After their emotional win Tuesday, Ross was eager to get back on the court.
“They were asked to be at the courts by 3:44 today for a 5:00 match,” coach Lisa Wolfe said. “I think everybody was out there about 45 minutes before that. They just like being around each other.”
Gillian Gallagher rolled to a win at No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Lily Abdoo pitched a straight-set shutout, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Berlin Swaisgood, who picked up the clinching win Tuesday night against St. Ursula, remained at No. 3 singles where she won 6-1, 6-0.
The doubles teams were flawless as the No. 1 team of Olivia Henry and Natalie Brown and the No. 2 squad of Jurni Kidd and Lillie Swinehart each won by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Giants improve to 8-1 overall and are 3-0 in the TRAC and play again Thursday at Fostoria at 4:30.
With the calendar now reading September, Wolfe bemoaned the prospect of the tennis season already approaching its final stretch.
“It’s a pleasure to be around these girls and it’s very sad to think that the season is half over,” Wolfe said. “It’s going by so quickly and they are so successful and so much fun to be around. Everything is just positive, the energy from the parents, the athletes. It’s fun.”
