CURTIS – It looked like the Ross boys golf team was in store for a very long day at Chippewa Golf Course.

Cole Druckenmiller

After a Par 5 first hole of a duel match against Genoa, the Little Giants’ top four golfers were a combined 14 over par. But led by Cole Druckenmiller, Ross was able to save its day by breaking 200 as a team on its way to a score of 197 to Genoa’s 155.

“We got off to a horrible start,” coach Jim Scharer said. “Two doubles and two bogies on that hole and we shoot 189. We create ways to not break 190, that’s for sure.

“To be honest with you, I never thought we’d break 200 but because of Cole’s round we did.”

Druckenmiller scored Ross’ lowest nine-hole round of the season, carding an eight-over par 43.

“After five holes he was 8 over and he parred in,” Scharer said. “That’s what we’re after, that mental toughness right there to be able to do that.

“That course, the last four holes, really suits his eye,” Scharer added. “He has a fade and that’s a pretty good fade course in the last four holes. He really played well.”

Elsewhere for the Little Giants, Braxton White and Owen Smith each shot 51 while Zane Rousch shot 52.

Ross meets Genoa again on Tuesday when the Comets visit the Little Giants at the Fremont Country Club.
