FOSTORIA – It was a pretty good Plan B.
Ross girls tennis coach Lisa Wolfe had originally intended to play her sectional tournament lineup in the Lady Giants’ last tune-up of the season before Thursday’s tournament.
But with junior Gillian Gallagher taking a day to rest an ankle injury from Monday night, Wolfe decided to forgo the sectional lineup.
Instead, she played all of her seniors in their final match of the season, something she was unable to do on the team’s Senior Night due to the conference match taking place that day.
So with their seniors taking a final bow, the Lady Giants still managed to cruise to a 5-0 sweep of Fostoria.
“I think it’s important to honor the seniors, they’ve put in years on the team,” Wolfe said. “Somebody like Taylor (Sachs) never got a chance to play in a varsity match so this was good for her too.”
Sachs, along with fellow senior Jurni Kidd, played in her first varsity match at No. 2 doubles where the duo romped to a 6-1, 6-3 win.
The No. 1 doubles team of seniors Olivia Henry and Natalie Brown won their match 6-0, 6-1.
The fifth senior on the team, Mallory Hutton, won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Junior Lily Abdoo swept her No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, while junior Berlin Swaisgood won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
The Lady Giants finish the year with a 15-5 overall record in duel matches. They have Wednesday off before hosting the sectional tourney Thursday beginning at 9 a.m.
“Tomorrow is going to just a light day of practice. It won’t be anything strenuous,” Wolfe said. “Maybe working on some nets or something they don’t have to move a whole lot. They’ll be ready to go.”
