FINDLAY – Ross’ girls golf season came to a close Tuesday afternoon with the Lady Giants teeing off in the Division I sectional tournament at Sycamore Springs.

And in the final tournament of the year, the Lady Giants endured a new test: No stroke limit.

“At first I was really worried because we’ve never had no stroke limit for 18 holes, it’s either been double par or circle 10, so we’ve always had a max score,” coach Nicole Kulasa said. “They’re pretty upset with how they shot, they didn’t shoot their best, but it’s their first big tournament they’ve ever played in. I think they honestly tried their best.”

The Lady Giants carded a team score of 548. Shelby Level shot a team-low score of 115 while Grace Britt shot a 140, followed by Mekhia Williams’ 142. Sarah Widman rounded out the scoring with 151.

“This year was a learning season. We learned a lot about the game, how it was played, the etiquette of the game,” Kulasa said. “Next year we’re going to really hone in on those skills to really make them better and start to cutting down on some of those strokes.”

Ashland (343), Findlay (355) and Lexington (357) advanced to the district tournament. Kulasa said seeing the scores needed to advance beyond the sectional tournament will give her players a goal to strive for during the offseason.

“I think they know what it takes now,” she said. “They saw the score that it takes to get out (of sectionals) now. …We’re not far off. We have work to do but if they’re willing to put in the time and willing to work at it, I think that’s where we’re heading down the road here.”
