FREMONT – Some ties can feel as good as a win. Others…not so much.
The Ross girls soccer team experienced about as painful a tie as a team can Monday night. The Lady Giants saw a two-goal lead evaporate in the final three minutes to end in a 2-2 tie with Bowling Green.
“It’s a tough one,” coach Phil Collison said. “It’s tough to let it slip away. I think that’s the bigger point, games that just slip away are difficult.”
Ross took the lead in the first half on a goal off a corner kick by Ashtyn Schneider. The Lady Giants extended their lead midway through the second half when Elizabeth Bloom gave a pass to Victoria Miller who buried the ball in the net for the 2-0 lead.
However, the Bobcats surged, putting constant pressure on the Little Giant goal before finally scoring with 2:50 to play in the game.
Just 65 seconds later, the Bobcats scored again when a shot trickled through goalkeeper Hailey Taylor. Despite the late goal, Taylor put on a stellar performance in goal making 12 saves, while Ross fired just four shots at the BG keeper.
“She made a lot of greats saves,” Collison said of Taylor. “She played a great game. You can’t judge it on (the late goals), she played well tonight.”
Despite the disappointing finish to the match, Collison didn’t want his team to get too down on itself.
“It’s Ok, life goes on, it’s not the end of the world,” he said. “They’ll move forward. They can’t let it affect them, we still have more matches to keep working.”
The Lady Giants, now with a 7-6-1 record, return to action Wednesday at St. Ursula.
