With the TRAC boys tennis tournament looming, Little Giant coach Lisa Wolfe reminded her team every point and every game may be the difference between a high seed and a low seed.
The league’s coaches will conference this week ahead of Friday and Saturday’s league tournament and discuss seeding for the five flights. In those discussions, when head-to-head and overall records are not enough to settle who should be seeded where, games won often can be the tie-breaker.
The Little Giants helped themselves in that regard Tuesday. Ross shut out TRAC rival Toledo Central Catholic 5-0, losing no more than three games in any set in a major confidence-boosting win, given they defeated a Toledo school so decisively.
At No. 1 singles, Nils Nolte rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory while Alex Thatcher was stellar in a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Drew Miller won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
The No. 2 doubles team of Lucas Cronin and Ethan Moyer won every game, 6-0, 6-0 in their victory while the No. 1 duo of Trevor Weickert and Sam Long won their match 6-3, 6-2, settling themselves down after a couple disappointing games in the second set.
The Little Giants are now 12-3 overall and hold a 3-3 mark in the TRAC. Ross travels to Huron Wednesday before closing out the league’s regular season schedule Thursday at home against Whitmer. The TRAC tournament begins Friday morning.
