HURON – The Little Giant tennis team had to battle for wins Wedneday night. But battle they did and took an impressive 5-0 win over Huron.
Nils Nolte (No. 1 singles) and Drew Miller (No. 3 singles), won their matches by scores of 7-5, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively, but each of them had to fight through adversity.
“(I’m) proud of Nils,” coach Lisa Wolfe said. “He was behind 0-5 in the first set and won seven games in a row to take the set. Drew (was) behind 0-3 first set, won 6 games in a row.”
Alex Thatcher rounded out the singles wins, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-0.
The No. 1 doubles team of Sam Long and Trevor Weickert won a hard-fought match against Huron’s Jake Swope and Oliver Claus, winning 6-4, 7-5.
“Trevor and Sam handled a very tough pair of athletes at first doubles,” Wolfe said. “Great win against a solid team.”
The No. 2 double team of Lucas Cronin and Ethan Moyer had the easiest match of the day as they cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in their match.
The Little Giants improve to 13-3 overall, 3-3 in the TRAC. Ross travels to Whitmer for its last league match of the year before this weekend’s TRAC tournament.
