FREMONT – In just about every match her team plays, Ross girls golf coach Nicole Kulasa sees more progress.
Monday afternoon, playing in the heat, the Lady Giants trimmed 10 shots off their lowest score of the season, shooting a 220 in a match against Tiffin Columbian’s 209.

“The girls are challenging themselves to continue to improve every match,” Kulasa said. “A 220 is a great score at the country club, I don’t think we have broken (230) all year. I am hoping as we continue to play tomorrow and Thursday at the Country Club our scores remain in that 220-range or lower.
“Today we came out with positive attitudes and ready to play in the heat,” she added. “As the girls are continuing the season we are seeing more of the things that we are working on in practice carry over to our matches. Now it is just about consistency and putting all the shots together.”
Freshman Alana Smith shot a season-low 47, breaking into the 40s for the first time. Shelby Level shot a 53, Mekhia Williams had a 58 and Sarah Widman posted a 62.
“I am really proud of my score that I posted today,” Smith said. “I am very proud that, as a team, our score is coming down.”
“I am very proud of Alana for breaking into the 40s today, that is a huge accomplishment and definitely something that she is proud of as well,” Kulasa said. “She was making great contact with the ball today. I hope to see her continue in the 40s as the year progresses.”
The Lady Giants are at home again Tuesday as they host Mohawk.
