FREMONT – The Fremont Ross girls soccer team could not have gotten off to a faster start Monday afternoon.

Ashtyn Schneider
Ashtyn Schneider scored just 10 seconds into the game, taking a Toledo Start turnover and burying it in the net. Just over two minutes later, Justine Michael converted on a penalty kick, lifting the Lady Giants to a two-goal lead.
From there, however, despite an overwhelming advantage in scoring opportunities, Ross’ offense dried up and the Lady Giants had to settle for a disappointing 3-3 tie against Toledo Start.
“Literally, I think we hit the bar three times,” coach Phil Collison said. “We probably had 30 shots. We just couldn’t finish. They were constantly dropping nine people behind the ball so they were packing the box and we couldn’t finish. We had a lot of great opportunities, we just couldn’t finish.”
After Ross’ early lead, Start roared back, scoring three goals on three shots in a four-minute span, taking a 3-2 lead by the game’s 10-minute mark.
There, the score remained until the second half when Schneider score her second of the night off an assist from Michael, tying the game at 3-3. Beyond that, Ross’ offense remained frustrated.

Justine Michael
“It’s just an unfortunate thing,” Collison said. “Sometimes you play well and don’t get the win and this was one of those instances. We’ll put it past us and move forward.
“We played well, we played hard for all 80 minutes, but we just couldn’t find the back of the net.”
Ross (1-1-1 overall) returns to action Wednesday at Lima Senior.
