FREMONT – Mike Keegan picked a great time to have a career day.
The Little Giants’ senior golfer shot a career-low round of 47 Tuesday afternoon, tying for Ross’ lowest score of the day, and proved pivotal in the team’s three-stroke victory over Oak Harbor, 191-194.

Keegan’s 47 was four shots better than his previous-best of 51.
“(A) 47 for Mike is outstanding,” Ross coach Jim Scharer said. “He’s finally allowing himself to relax a little bit on the course. …The second thing is, he’s really starting to hit the ball off the tee better. He’s really improved a lot in the last week and a half. We did a drill to try to get him to turn his wrist over and ever since then he’s really been progressively going low.”
Zane Rusch also shot a 47 for Ross while Cole Druckenmiller scored 48 and Luke O’Brien carded a 49 – giving the Little Giants their first round of four scores in the 40s this season.
“I think we did that last year in our 15th match and this year we did it in our 10th, that made me very happy,” Scharer said. “And no matter how you win, it doesn’t matter, but it was real nice to see four scores in the 40s.”
Making Ross’ four-scores-in-the-40s score most impressive may be who wasn’t included: Braxton Miller, arguably the team’s best golfer this season.
“That’s what was so nice, it was a total team effort,” Scharer said. “Braxton has probably been our most consistent player and he just had a rough hole tonight and Mike coming through with a 47 gives us a victory.”
