OAK HARBOR – Ross girls tennis coach Lisa Wolfe wanted to see more from her doubles teams.
Finally, Wednesday night, her No. 1 doubles team finally answered the call.
Sophia Biggins and Emma Jahns dominated their match against Oak Harbor’s top doubles squad and helped the Lady Giants coast to a 4-1 victory over the Rockets.
“No. 1 doubles were given another chance to prove themselves after sloppy play (Tuesday) night,” Wolfe said. “They played great tonight against a solid Oak Harbor No. 1 doubles team.”
Biggins and Jahns won their match by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
They victory gave the Lady Giants insurance in case one of their singles players slipped up – insurance that proved unnecessary.
Gillian Gallagher won a three-set match No. 1 singles. She lost the first set, 2-6, then rebounded for wins of 6-0 and 6-2 to take the match.
“(I’m) proud of Gilli’s play,” Wolfe said. “She was patient and determined in sets two and three. (She) got rid of ‘trying-to-win’ shots against a pusher.”
Lily Abdoo cruised to a straight-set win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Berlin Swaisgood won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
The Lady Giants remain undefeated on the season, 7-0 overall. Ross returns to the court Thursday hosting Lima Senior at 4:30.
