FREMONT – Rarely can any team, in any sport, point to one aspect that so singularly determined the outcome of an event quite like the Little Giant golf team can regarding Thursday’s duel match against Old Fort.
The Stockaders defeated the Little Giants by seven shots, 187-194, but on the round’s fifth hole, the Par-3, No. 14, the Little Giants top four golfers combined to shoot 12-over par.

Game. Set. Match.
“I sat there and told each of them to take the water out of play,” Ross coach Jim Scharer said. “They didn’t. As a coach, you’re sitting there going, ‘That hole right there cost us the match.’ And you know it right from the beginning.”
The only Little Giant who managed to get through the hole unscathed, Braxton White, went on to have a career round. He parred the 14th and went on to turn in a 43 — beating his previous low-round by two strokes.
“Braxton was really solid,” Scharer said. “He’s playing really good golf right now. It’s really encouraging. It’s his senior year and he’s able to be fairly consistent now, which is the aim of every golfer.”
Cole Druckenmiller shot a 48 for Ross while Zane Rusch followed with a 49 and Luke O’Brien rounded out the scoring with a 54.
Ross is back on the course Tuesday at the Clay Eagle’s Invite at Eagle Landing Golf Course.
Lady Giants host Bellevue
While the Little Giants were hosting Old Fort, the Lady Giants were also in action, teeing off against Bellevue. The Lady Red shot a 212 to the Lady Giants’ 226.
Alana Smith turned in Ross’ low round for the fifth time in the team’s last six events, carding a 49. Shelby Level followed for the Lady Giants with 58 while Mekhia Williams shot a 59 and Sarah Widman finished with a 60.
The Lady Giants are back in action Monday when they travel to Hidden Hills Golf Course for a duel against Lake.
