“(The) swimmers looked a lot better in the water then they did at first meet against Sandusky,” coach Phil Moran said. “They are learning to swim faster even though they are tired and sore.”
On their way to claiming the team championship, the Lady Giants won five events with Olivia DeRodes and Alexis Prenzlin having a hand in all five wins.
DeRodes won the only individual event of the day, the 500 freestyle, with a time of 5:28.08. DeRodes was also a part of the 800 freestyle relay, along with Hayley Wilson, Rachel Haitonic and MaKennah Fitzgerald.
Prenzlin was a part of three event-winning relays: the 3×300 (with AnneMarie Moses and Lauren Zimmerman), the 300 butterfly (with Mara Brown, Hannah Widman and Moses) and the 300 breaststroke (with Zimmerman, Hayley Wilson and Maddie Gallagher).
The boys team, on the other, won just one event, the 300 butterfly, thanks to the efforts of Ethan Taylor, Braedyn Price, Connor Colston and Dylan Weisenauer.
The 400 medley relay (featuring Colston, Case Stevenson, Weisenauer and James Elder) and the 800 freestyle (Elder, Logan Kropp, Andy Burroughs and Taylor) both finished second place.
The Ross swim teams are back in action Tuesday at home against Sandusky Perkins at 5 p.m. followed by one of the season’s biggest meets, the Ned Reeb Invitational at Ohio State
“We will see what we do with two days rest for the Ned Reeb Invitational next week,” Moran said. “Dual meet with Perkins on Tuesday will be big challenge for the boys as Perkins beat them in the relay meet this weekend.”
