FREMONT – If the Little Giant boys tennis team thought it was going to have an easy time facing cross-town rival St. Joseph Central Catholic, the Crimson Streaks put an end to that thinking in a hurry.
The Little Giants found themselves in a battle Friday afternoon, but Drew Miller’s three-set victory at No. 2 singles proved the difference in Ross’ 3-2 win over SJCC.
“Pretty impressed with St. Joe’s athletes,” Ross coach Lisa Wolfe said. “They’ve worked hard since a year ago, (they are a) nice team.”
After dropping his first set to SJCC’s Chase Harrison 2-6, Miller rebounded to win to next to sets, 7-5, 6-2.
“Along with the doubles teams, Drew was the winning point during a hard-fought match,” Wolfe said.
Ethan Moyer and Evan Oglesbee won at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-3, 6-0 while Frankie Scott and Kurt Harrison took a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles.
The win increases Ross’ overall record to 7-4. The Little Giants host Oregon Clay on Tuesday at 4:30.
