TOLEDO – The only person Sarah Watson couldn’t stop Wednesday evening was Mother Nature.
The Fremont Ross goalkeeper stood on her head for 50 minutes against Toledo Central Catholic, stopping everything shot her way.
Ten minutes into the second half, however, lightning halted the match and eventually forced its premature ending in 0-0 tie between the Lady Giants and Irish,
“It was a tough game but it would have been a completely different score if it wasn’t for Sarah Watson,” co-coach Emma Schratt said. “She played the best game of her season so far. She had many difficult shots on her, but she wasn’t letting anything past her.”
Schratt estimated Watson stopped around 20 shots.
“We lost count after 13,” she said. “Defense had a lot of pressure on them.”
Ross has a few shots of its own in the offensive end but couldn’t cash in.
“Offense had a few chances, with Ashtyn (Schneider) having a couple of shots on goal, one she crossed into the center for Mia (Ramirez) and it was just missed.”
The tie takes Ross’ record to 5-3-1 overall, 1-1-1 in the TRAC. The Lady Giants host Whitmer next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
