FREMONT – The Lady Giants held Findlay to 11 first half points and then pressed the cruise control to earn their ninth TRAC win, and 14th win overall in 17 games.
The Lady Giants defensive performance was one of their best this season. Minus Findlay’s three straight three point makes, they would have been left with 22 points during the four quarters. “When we played them the first time they scored five threes against us,” A happy Juan Vela said after the win. “So, when the ball went into the post, we told our post players you’re going one on one, you’re not going to have any help. Our guards are going to defend and get any Findlay passes that are kicked out, so we are going to defend those. That way we could see if their post player was good enough for 15 or 20 points and when we did help, they hit a three.” It was because of the good defense that held the Lady Trojans (7-8, 3-6) to 11 first half points. “That’s what we were doing, we were playing good outside defense and as soon as the ball went into the post, we took their wings away for the threes.”
Statistically it was Janiah Holmes leading the way with 15 points as she continued crashing the boards including five rebounds and two assists. Carma Johnson contributed 11 points in the win with five rebounds to go with four assists. Johnson and Lyndi Wolf contributed with one three apiece and Wolf added one blocked shot during the win. The biggest shot of the game and the shot that got the biggest fan support was when little used senior Aleah Whaley sank a three-point shot to end the game.
Next up for the 14-3 Lady Giants is a visit from the Lake Lady Pilots scheduled for Saturday evening at 7pm.
