FREMONT – They have been called ‘a great volleyball team’ by some and the OHSAA has recognized them as the 12th ranked team in Division I. The St Ursula Arrows proved their ranking as they dominated Fremont Ross from start to finish in a three-set sweep.
The Little Giants (9-3) best set came in the opener as they fought hard against a stronger Arrow team. There were five ties during the set with the last being knotted at 20-20. But an Ursula block then and ace followed by two kills ended the set in Ursula’s favor 25-20.
The second set was all Ursula (7-1) as they ran away with a 25-9 victory. Ross got the first point of the set with a Lyndi Wolf kill, but soon the scoreboard read in favor of the Arrows 8-1. The Giants never got closer than seven points the remainder of the set.
Again, in the third set Ross got out to a quick 3-0 lead which included an ace serve by Abigail Cahill. Again, the Arrows came storming back. The match was tied 4-4 and 5-5 before St Ursula began to pull away. Ross went on to lose the third and final set 25-16.
Coach Lindi Cahill summed it up perfectly. “I put up on our quote board today ‘we don’t make excuses; we have to find a way.’ And we did not do enough to find a way tonight.”
The ladies return to the court Saturday when they travel to Ashland for a non-conference match.
