In what was hoped to be a promising day on the links, the Little Giants golf team fell short of expectations, finishing in a disappointing 5th place at this year’s NLL Golf Championships. Head coach Jim Scharer had entered the final round with optimism, believing a third-place finish was well within reach, based on the team’s consistent performance throughout the season.
“Considering how we’ve played this year, I truly felt third place was where we belonged,” said Scharer. “It just didn’t happen for us today.”
The trio of Robert Rich, Brandon Fry, and Max Durnwald each shot an 89, providing the bulk of the scoring for the Little Giants. Meanwhile, Quinn Wolf closed out the team’s efforts with a round of 92. Despite the overall disappointing result, both Rich and Fry were rewarded for their solid play this season, earning 2nd Team All-League honors.
“Robert and Brandon have been steady all year,” Scharer noted. “They’ve earned those All-League honors, and they deserve recognition for their consistency.”
With the NLL Championships behind them, the Little Giants will now turn their attention to the postseason. They are set to compete next week at Sycamore Springs, hoping to regroup and make a stronger push in tournament play.
