In an emotional and action-packed evening, the Little Giants varsity tennis team celebrated Senior Night in style, with all seven seniors in the lineup, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the visiting Fostoria Redmen.
The seniors came through in key singles matches, with Kayla Lewis leading the charge at #1 singles. Lewis put on a clinic, showcasing her dominance with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over her Fostoria opponent. Her powerful baseline play and consistent shot-making proved too much to handle.
At #2 singles, Mariska Rakay followed suit with an equally dominant performance. Rakay displayed her excellent court awareness and controlled the tempo from start to finish, dispatching her opponent 6-1, 6-1.
The final win of the evening came courtesy of Jessica Thompson at #3 singles. Thompson was in total control, not dropping a single game as she cruised to a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory. Her precision and composure on the court were clear standouts, earning her a well-deserved shutout.
Despite strong efforts from the doubles teams, the Little Giants fell short in those matches. The #1 doubles pair of Bella Harrison and Megan Hanes struggled to find their rhythm, losing 2-6, 1-6. The #2 doubles duo of Brissy Moreno and Lily Rakay also battled hard but were edged out 3-6, 3-6.
While the doubles teams couldn’t quite secure the win, the seniors’ singles dominance was enough to carry the Little Giants to a 3-2 overall victory. The seniors certainly made their mark on a memorable Senior Night, helping lead the team to a significant win as they continue their season.
