The Fremont Ross Little Giants saw their season come to a close with a 46-29 loss to the Toledo Start Spartans. Despite falling earlier in the season to the Spartans in a decisive defeat, the Little Giants came out determined to execute their game plan—and for the first half, they did just that.
Fremont Ross slowed down Start’s fast-paced offense with a well-structured zone defense that proved difficult for the Spartans to penetrate. This defensive effort kept the game within reach, and the Little Giants took a narrow 16-14 lead into the halftime break.
However, the start of the third quarter proved costly for Fremont Ross. A series of mistakes led to easy transition baskets for the Spartans, who took advantage of the momentum shift. By the end of the third quarter, the Little Giants found themselves trailing by nine points. Despite their best efforts to claw back into the game, they were unable to cut into the deficit, and Start pulled away for the victory.
Ava Jones led the offensive charge for Fremont Ross with 10 points, while Jazmin Heidleburg, Camila Sanchez, and Lanae’ Tucker each contributed five.
The loss also marked the end of the high school careers for seniors Jazmin Heidleburg, Lanae’ Tucker, Maylin DeWalt, and Lyndi Wolf, who leave behind a legacy of dedication and leadership for the program.
While the season came to a disappointing end, the Little Giants showcased resilience and growth throughout the year, setting the foundation for the future of the program.
