Fremont, OH — In a game filled with emotion, grit, and late-inning heroics, the Fremont Ross Little Giants staged a thrilling comeback to walk it off against Bellevue, 8-7, on Monday evening.
Trailing 4-0 early, the Little Giants showed resilience in front of their home crowd. Fremont clawed their way back into the game in the bottom of the third, plating three runs to cut the deficit to one. Bellevue, however, responded with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, stretching their lead to 7-3.
Down by three runs with just three outs to go, Fremont’s chances looked slim. But the seventh inning proved magical.
Cam Joseph sparked the rally with a leadoff single. After two quick outs, the Little Giants were down to their final out. But disciplined at-bats kept hope alive, as back-to-back walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases. Then, sophomore catcher Brayden Garza delivered the moment of the night — a clutch double to left-center, scoring Will Eastham and Cade Reineck to complete the comeback and seal the 8-7 walk-off victory.
Max Durnwald earned the win in relief, tossing four strong innings. He allowed just two hits and one run while striking out five. Starter Cam Joseph pitched the first three innings, giving up four hits and four earned runs while striking out six.
With the win, the Little Giants improve to 2-2 on the season and look to carry that momentum into their next matchup against Anthony Wayne.
Head coach Derek Thiessen praised his team’s resilience:
“With grit and heart, we played until victory or the final out. That’s the Little Giant way.”
