The Fremont Ross boys tennis team is heating up at just the right time, notching two commanding victories in as many days. The Little Giants opened the week with a clean sweep of Sandusky on Monday evening, cruising to a dominant 5-0 win. On Tuesday, they backed it up with a gritty and hard-fought 5-0 victory over league rival Bowling Green, marking a major milestone for the program.
Head Coach Lisa Wolfe couldn’t have been more pleased with her team’s efforts, especially from her top singles players, senior Cole Kinsey and junior Jackson Swinehart.
“Cole and Jackson are really coming into form,” Wolfe said after Monday’s win. “They’re playing some of the best tennis I’ve seen from them all season.”
Tuesday’s match against Bowling Green presented a much tougher test, but the Little Giants answered the call.
At No. 1 Singles, Kinsey battled through a tight three-set match, emerging victorious 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Swinehart followed suit at No. 2 Singles, holding off a late charge to win 6-2, 7-5. At No. 3 Singles, sophomore Carson Lewis showed resilience after dropping the first set, grinding out a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Zach Bishop and Charlie Kramer displayed chemistry and consistency, taking their match 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile, the No. 2 duo of Chase Culbertson and Logan Wensinger toughed out a thrilling three-set win, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, sealing the sweep for the Little Giants.
Coach Wolfe praised her team’s tenacity and team-first mentality following the landmark win.
“As you can see, this team fights and finds a way to win,” she said. “BG is always a talented team, and this season, our guys found a way to get it done. Every athlete was determined to do their job. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time we beat them—but today, it happened.”
With momentum on their side, the Little Giants will look to carry this energy into the next stretch of the season as they continue to climb the league standings.
